Beauty? I only see work, work, work

08Aug10

As wildfires ravage Russia’s wheat crop and send world prices to record highs, there’s an early harvest this year in Ireland.

To prepare, Mick Wall, a mechanic on my cousin’s farm in Southeast Ireland, has been tuning up a 30-year old New Holland 1530 combine harvester.

He may call it a “small model”, but to me looks like a World War II battle tank and sounds like the Normandy invasion.

Amid the grinding metal blades, however, I saw the beauty of metal worn by wheat.

“Beauty?”, Mick exclaimed with his strong Irish accent. “There is no beauty in this machine. I only see work, work, work.”

Love the way this is categorized under “color” as opposed to “hard work”! I see you’re getting close the mother nature this summer! What a treat!

  2. The colors on this old combine were so striking. Colors were actually not even created by Mother Nature, but plain hard work. Harvesting pays off, in unexpected ways!
