Vintage Vogue and the Busty Fifties

30Jun10

In tackling my vintage Vogue 1954 tea party dress, I realize how large and big-chested American women were in the 50s.

Above is the completed toile, a test garment of the crucial dress parts made from calico see if the pattern fits or needs alterations.

Women in the 50s tended to be larger and chestier, inspiring patterns with more ease built into it in these areas.

The overall shape is a bit large, especially the chest. It is recommended that women with my build choose a pattern one size smaller for that style dress.

I will attempt a few creative alterations on the corsage. Alterations are not my forte, as they take quite advanced skills.

Let’s see if I can fit into the 1950s (literally!).
